Tenerife has long been a favourite for people buying property so they can relax in the sun and lounge on the beaches, but the island has plenty to offer those in search of adventure.
Hiking enthusiasts will be find scenic winding trails through the Mercedes Mountains and the more athletic will relish the rock climbing challenges found on Roque de Taborno.
Situated on the north-west coast of Tenerife, the 50m high tower rises above a plateau and is situated a short hike away from the village of Taborno.
The volcanic history of the island affords a number of other opportunities for exploration.
After scaling the heights of the Roque de Taborno, those with property in Tenerife might wish to venture underground into the volcanic caves and tunnels.
Among the attractions is the Cueva del Viento - or Cave of the Wind - which leads to tunnels that stretch about ten kilometres under the island.
Those who buy property in Tenerife and have a strong head for heights might wish to survey their new home from the air by taking up parasailing, which is a popular activity in some of the southern resorts.
If speed appeals rather than gruelling climbs, subterranean adventures or perilous heights, Tenerife has abundant opportunities to indulge in mountain biking trips.
The Tenerife Tourist Corporation said the island is ideal for this sort of break, particularly the Corona Forestal near the Teide National Park and the hills round La Esperanza.
